I'm surprised that they haven't even talked about releasing MV on Bluray. The Sopranos is out on Bluray now, all we need is the other best show ever to be released on Bluray.

There were a few other random pics too on the IMDB board.

Hmm i don't know if this is legit. I haven't seen that episode in awhile so does that look upgraded to anyone else? Season 5 stills isn't exactly the best material to pull from lol.

It's hard to say whether that's actually HD, considering it's a photo of a monitor. Though, Don's beard looks pretty high-def. :p

But, Season 5 actually already looks pretty decent on the DVD.

That post was also in 2012, they should've been done and released by now.

I do kinda wish we got a 30th anniversary box set. I bet all re-lisencing all that music is a pain in the butt and expensive though.

They'll fork out that kind of money for the Sopranos and other big time series but stuff like MV won't get as much revenue from blurray sales, so all the business guys in universal are sat around a table "yeah i don't think it's worth the cash"

But Miami Vice was bigger than The Sopranos! Why would they have to re-license the music? They're still selling Miami Vice DVD boxsets. A bluray is a type of DVD.

I don't know if i'd say vice is bigger with modern audiences, i don't really like sopranos but it's usually 1st on the greatest tv shows of all time lists..Most tv buffs will go out and buy it on bluray. Can't see MV selling as well besides for niche audiences

and idk, i guess when they got the songs licensed for home release the first time around it's permeannt? or do they have to negotiate it every time it's released on a new format?

Don't know. I have no idea how "copyright" works. I'm sure I myself breach copyright every day. :)

As a cultural thing, I'd say Miami Vice was bigger. Though The Sopranos was very popular and is a great show also, I started watching it again about a month ago because I hadn't seen it since it was originally on TV, it's pretty good but I prefer Miami Vice. :p That's why I'm on a Miami Vice forum and not a Sopranos forum. The Sopranos is newer than Vice, (only ended 7 years ago), so when people are rating Sopranos as #1, they are forgetting about Miami Vice.On IMDB's highest rated TV shows (rated by users of the website), Sopranos is tenth while Miami Vice isn't even in the top 50.  It's barely on any top 10 or 20 lists. It's quite sad actually, it's a forgotten great nowadays.

That's what i mean though, we might find MV as a great show but the average joe isn't gonna go out and pick it up randomly. Whereas they might for the sopranos, mad men, boardwalk empire etc

The cost of remastering all the episodes isn't worth the profit they'd get, so i'm sure they'd be hesitant to do it. If they did a 30th anniversary box set it could have re-ignited interest in the series.

The Sopranos although ended in 2006/7 is  only now just getting a blu ray release in November this Year - so there is hope for MV.

:D

The Sopranos bluray is already out over here, I've seen it advertised in catalogues for a few months now.

I prefer Goodfellas and Casino, that the show was pretty much imitating >.<

True. I love GoodFellas, so much that I even made the crew on GTA V called "GoodFellas".

Ok so I've been getting back into the show recently. I watched it in the 80's, then USA network, TNN / Spike in the 90's, Centric, & Esquire recently. It was while watching it on Esquire that I decided I'd buy the DVD rereleases. Bought season 2 last week & had to have season 1 so I got it today.

Looking at the season 1 image, it seems a bit darker than season 2. Almost murky in spots. I've only looked at a few episodes but season 2 looked better. What did everyone else think? I was holding out for blu ray after all the HD rumors but had to have a fix & got the DVDs. Did less work go into the season 1 image?

I think they were just establishing the style in S1. They tried to use real interiors and stuff for the most part so everything looked all grungy. And then when you get to S2 every interior is a set painted bright purple, blue, pink etc. The show looks like a giant marsh mellow.

More time, energy and money was spent on the visuals to make it even better than S1. And sometimes the story lines suffered as a result.

and/or they used better cameras :/ idk lol

I have about 8 or so episodes I taped on Beta during the summer of 1985. I watched them a few years ago & the picture quality was in some ways better than the DVDs. The colors were really vibrant. Again these were taped during the summer reruns. There are flaws in the tapes but they look really good. I just don't think enough was done to clean season 1 up for the DVD. I'm glad to have it though!

I'm glad you have it too! It's a good investment. It's a fantastic and classic show to just have in your collection.

Back in the 70's, 80's, and 90s there was a lot of colour in TV shows, I think it had something to do with it being broadcasted on the old analogue radio waves, or the broadcasters turned up the colour. I remember TV always having a lot of colour when I was younger, and it wasn't tuned into the TV because video games were normal. I think the DVD's now is the films true colour, how it was filmed. That may explain why the colours are vibrant in the recordings of the original broadcast, but not the DVD's.

I don't want it to sound like its bad image. I've had time to go through season 1 more & it's pretty good. Just dark in areas & some specs here & there. I totally lost 2 hrs just going through the various episodes. I don't do binge watching but I could easily sit through 4 or 5 episodes straight.
