My thoughts about "Great McCarthy"

I watched "Great McCarthy" last night and noticed a few things.

1. Tubbs' cover is Richard Taylor instead of Richard Cooper.

2. I liked the party with the band playing, "Some Guys Have All the Luck." I added that song to my repertoire. Crockett asks if all the parties are that extravagant? The chic says, they usually have more than one band!

3. Crockett tells Tubbs his boat is being souped-up to add 20 knots & Tubbs asks, think it will be ready by race time? Crockett says, "I'm bettin' 25 grand on it!"

4. Crockett bet his Ferrari on the pool game, but what did he win from McCarthy?

I never liked the Richard Taylor undercover name, Richard doesn't suit him...and I thought he was one of the duran duran guys..:/

In Lombard, i think crockett quotes rod stewart at one point so that's a cool self referential thing

They were betting on the boat race with the confiscated cash they got off Gina and trudy

And in the pool game they won entry into the race.

Answer to #4 - Entry into the boat race.

Thank you, thedeparted94 & Pink FlamingO

I knew about the money from Gina & Trudy but I didn't realize Crockett won entry into the race. Imagine if he lost the Ferrari!  ;(

Realistically the implementation of adding turbo chargers onto the engines of the Stinger would probably give them a few more horsepower and yes I concede it would probably give them more speed but a prop change would also be in store for this to happen.

The whole premise is not untrue but it would be a little more tricky than just adding turbo's

My boat came originally with superchargers with dual quads and drank fuel like no tomorrow!!! They were over a thousand HP each but now I have stock engines with single carbs and am down to a reasonable 420HP approximately for each bringing it to about 800+ BHP with a slight loss through the transmissions. Originally my boat could runclose to 100mph but now I run about 63mph full tilt with a loss of over 400hp since it was in it's original setup.

All that being said the speeds of the boats in "The Great McCarthy" were probably around the 50-55mph which in those days of 1984 were very impressive speeds indeed for any boat, (modern boats today can top 110-140mph on any good day with modern technology) especially a huge tank of a hull like the McCarthy boat. That is actually a lot of hull to push through the water as the Stinger was much sleeker and much lighter, therefore faster.

Although the race in the episode was probably run at the 50mph range some of those boats could top 70mph in smoother waters including the Stinger if the setup was as Crockett told Tubbs.

The episode is pretty well right on the mark......

Scenes we'd like to see: ........ McCarthy wins the game & Castillo has Crockett pay $100 a week for the rest of his career in Miami  Vice!  :D

Good points Tony - although I enjoyed "The Great McCarthy" it seemed more of a style over substance episode for me - great visuals etc.

I suppose this is after the great run from the Pilot to "One Eyed Jack" . Nevertheless throughly enjoyed.  :D

I agree Matt5........Even "No Exit" with Bruce Willis seemed a little slow moving. At least "Great McCarthy" had a cool  party, pool game & the fast paced boat race. "Glades" takes a lot of effort to watch. It's one of my least watched episodes.

But every episode has some humor, fashion or music :radio: , that I enjoy!

Glad you brought that up, 'Dep94' .............the worst thing is most of these scenes with DJ & PMT show more skin on them than on the ladies     .......so  it's good you can fast forward on tapes & dvds.
