I personally do not think a reboot will be a good idea. Not unless the guys in control of the style and music are us. Because otherwise, it'll just end up being like the movie was - A disappointment.Look at the reboot of Hawaii Five-O. It doesn't have any resemblances to the original, it's basically just NCIS Hawaii.

I think a reboot will eventually happen, but it'll be far different than the original...probably much more technology-oriented like "Hawaii Five-O."

That's exactly what I'm afraid of. If they reboot the series, they'd have to make it realistic as possible. I doubt the average Vice cop has access to this super spy technology.

Just have Billy Crockett and Ricardo's son cruising in a black Ferrari California, some 80s inspired indie music, some actual 80s music to bring back some memories, maybe some new popular music if it sounds right, like some Avicii in the clubs to keep it realistic, and a synthwave/synthpop original soundtrack (There are a decent amount of guys to choose from who make music like Jan Hammer did).

Clothes-wise, Crockett wears the trademark white blazer. Tubbs being classy with the suit and tie. Burn Notice also got the style right, so take a few ideas from them and how they dressed up their gangsters and drug dealers.

Billy Crockett would be 36, and Rico Jr would be 29. They could have the story like Rico Jr hated growing up around drug dealers (after being taken in Sons and Lovers), ran away and joined the academy to do something about it, gets promoted to a Vice detective at the end of the first episode.

Like burn notice, they have trackers and bugs, but no giant touch screens or crap like that. Don't get too high-tech. Keep it relevant to what's available to actual vice detectives.

And there is a successful TV series reboot enjoyable to all old Miami Vice fans and welcoming new ones.

I'm joining you with all of this! But why Michael Mann ruined the series? He left to completely Dick Wolf and he ruined. After 25 years he ruined again and tarnished the name of the Miami Vice tv series with a crap movie..

I still think Did Michael Mann made the legendary tv series of 80's "The Original Miami Vice" or someone else did he just a used his name for money&become famous ? What about Anthony Yerkovich ? How did he write a crap scenario script like this ? Furthermore He was the scriptwriter of the original series. I still don't get it :S

Dick Wolf basically made it Law & Order Miami. Lots of court cases towards the end of the series. Not enough Vice.   The last two seasons are boring, except for the Sonny Burnett saga - that's the only good entertaining thing they done.

Absolutely! The only thing I liked on last two seasons Crockett's long hair and Tubbs's beard but I don't like Tubbs's clothes on Season 5 - Sonny's clothes is good but Rico's.. nah! Tim Truman's scores is good too!

Especially Line Of Fire very very good episode! Even this episode taking down alone the 2006 movie!

Yeah, Rico's clothes weren't that great. But times were heading to the 90s, and that's early 90s fashion.

Tim Truman's scores are great, they're more relaxed. And Jan's scores were synthy. So it was heading in a new direction for the final season, maybe it'll be better if Don Johnson showed up for work instead of pursuing his music career, but don't get me wrong, I do enjoy Don's music. But one thing we can all agree on, even though Dick kind of ruined the show a bit, it's still better than the 2006 movie.

Hello All,

I did another rewrite on my Miami Vice reunion/TV reboot script recently. It was long overdue, since I wrote the first draft five or so years before the 2006  film. Some updates were necessary. The script has a few new things added too, so if you haven't read it in a while you might want to check it out.

The script is available along with an updated article by me. A lot has happened, then again, unfortunately, not much has happened. You can view many articles about what inspired the script, etc and read it FREE at: www.miamivicechronicles.com

I would be happy to post the script here for the fans, but only if I have permission to do so. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! It was quite the journey in speaking with fans all over the world. I wrote it not for the money, certainly not for the fame, but for YOU the FANS… Enjoy!

Blessings All ~ Rick

I don't think a reboot would be good at this particular time because the string of 80s reboots (TV and movies) have been mostly lackluster, and seem to be more nostalgia pandering rather than giving a fresh reinvention that remains focused on the qualities that made the franchise so popular.

This only just some of the reboots on TV and in the movies that have come out in about the last 10 years:

The "A"-Team, 21 Jump Street, The Thing, Fame, The Karate Kid, Conan The Barbarian, Clash of the Titans, Footloose, Arthur, the Miami Vice movie, Fright Night, Wall Street 2, The Smurfs movies, Tron sequel, Mad Max, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 cartoon and 2014 movie, Fuller House TV series, Knight Rider TV series, Dallas TV series, Transformers, Ghostbusters, Robocop... shall I go on? :)

The nadir of this nostalgia pandering was the mega flop Pixels movie, by using 80s arcade icons in an over-the-top ridiculous plot.

As much as I would like to revisit Miami Vice and as opportune as the timing may be for having a reboot, the mostly subpar quality from the reboots don't make me to place a lot of faith into Hollywood's attempts in making one when, and if, they do.  But as others have said, I'm sure it's inevitable since the entertainment industry knows how to exploit the nostalgia society has currently been experiencing, due to the uncertainty of recent times (economic recession, terrorism, etc.)
